This Expert Advisor (EA) was designed to test the effectiveness of the trading strategy outlined by the original author. For a detailed look at the EA's parameters and its educational content, check out our latest journal issue:

Quick Overview of the EA Algorithm:

  • Time Frame: H1-D
  • Instruments: Trend-based financial instruments
  • Volume: Whole lot (0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1.0, etc.)
  • Indicators: MA (50 period), MA (100 period), MACD with standard parameters

Trading Signals:

Buy Signal:
The price must be above both the 50 and 100 period MAs by 10 points, and MACD must be above zero. Before the signal, MACD should have displayed negative values for the last five bars. Set the StopLoss at the minimum of the last five bars.

Sell Signal:
The price should be below both the 50 and 100 period MAs by 10 points, and MACD must be below zero. Similar to the buy signal, MACD should have shown positive values for the last five bars before the signal. Set the StopLoss at the maximum of the last five bars.

Position Management:

  • Once a signal appears, open an order at a whole lot.
  • The first target is set at double the StopLoss level; once reached, close half the position and move the StopLoss to break-even.

Position Closing:

The opened position will close either at the StopLoss or when the price crosses the 50-period MA by 10 points—downward for buys and upward for sells.

P.S. All possible variables of the strategy are adjustable, giving you the flexibility to experiment with parameters that work well for intraday charts. It’s best to test on tick data since profits are realized at market closure.
